Congratulations to Steve on reaching a long service milestone with BJD Crushers
We are delighted to announce that BJD Crusher’s Technical Sales Engineer, Steve Shires, has achieved a remarkable milestone this year, celebrating 50 years of service with BJD Crushers (formerly British Jeremy Diamond).
Fifty years is an outstanding achievement, so we asked Steve to reflect on his time with the business and share some of his most memorable highlights and insights.
Steve originally joined British Jeremy Diamond in 1975. At that time, the company’s main operations focused on the manufacture and supply of crushers, grinders, and mining equipment. He started his career as an apprentice, first working in the machine shop before later moving into the quality department. There, his main focus was maintaining and upholding quality standards across various areas, including CMM machining, ultrasonic testing, crack detection, and work in the fabrication department.
Changes over the years
Over the years, Steve has witnessed many changes including the company name change from British Jeffrey Diamond to BJD Crushers and office moves between Wakefield and Barnsley. He has seen the range of crusher applications expand from coal, aggregates, recycling to moulded fiberglass trims and plasterboard. For example, paper can be separated from plastic board and recycled into pet bedding.
Steve's memories
One of Steve’s many highlights was being part of the project team that redesigned and reintroduced the Light- Duty Hammermill 2012 crushing machine model to the product range back in 2015. This light duty crushing machine, with its reliability and robust construction, generated plenty of enquiries and orders.
Reflecting on his fond memories and 50 years with the company, Steve said: “There have been many changes during my time with BJD Crushers and British Geoffrey Diamond. I remember we used to have some fun departmental sports competitions.
Steve continues: “The BJD name holds an excellent reputation within the material handling processing, and crushing industries, and I take great pride in having contributed to that.”
Steve says that many materials need to be crushed. This industry has many applications and opportunities, providing an interesting career for anyone considering joining it.
